About
Air Medical Escorts
Air
Medical Escorts is a group of medical professionals dedicated
to the safe transport of our clients. We consider:
Client
safety
Is the patient healthy enough to travel? Once they
are home, is there a throw rug the client's crutches slip
on, causing another fall?
Client
health
Did the doctor consider the stresses of flying, such as
oxygen desaturation or dehydration? Are there adequate
medications available in the event of an unscheduled layover?
Can the client exercise in situ in order to prevent DVT?
Is the client at risk for cardiac arrhythmias that may
need treatment during the flight?
Client
comfort
Is the itinerary set up to minimize time en route? Is
there a wheelchair waiting at the airport entrance? We do our homework ahead of time so the client feels comfortable
with the nurse who will guide the process.
Client's
family
Have they been briefed on their part in the whole evacuation
procedure? Are they convinced our escort is competent
and able to transport their loved one in safety, health
and comfort?

Often
family members want to escort the client themselves, instead of having
a stranger do it. Do they understand that our role is
to continuously monitor the client for any adverse reaction
to the flight, such as dehydration, nausea or hypoxia,
recognize the signs early, and treat the client. Our staff
has undergone specialized training in altitude physiology,
and how flying commercially affects the client; our staff
then can either prevent a problem, or treat it early.
The family member does not have the expertise nor the
equipment to monitor and treat their loved one.
Even
something as basic as assisting a client walking with
crutches; does the family have experience assisting people
using assistive devices? One mis-step may cause another
fall and fracture.
We
pride ourselves on having an experienced medical staff
who thinks several steps ahead, mitigating unforeseen
circumstances that could put the client at risk. We strongly
feel our clients are entitled to the best we have to give:
a passionate sense of duty backed by a ferocious attention
to detail. We are proud to be Air Medical Escorts.
